Responsible for the end-to-end processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and ensure the efficient functioning of the Workday U.S. or Canada Payroll modules. This role involves handling complex payroll tasks.
Essential Job Duties
  • Responsible for the weekly and bi-weekly payroll process from beginning to end, including data entry, adjustments, and reconciliations. Ensure payroll is processed with speed and accuracy. Ensure compliance with federal, state and/or provincial payroll legislation and internal controls as related to payroll processing and company policy.
  • Act as a point of contact for all payroll-related questions from managers and employees. Assist managers in ensuring that adjustments are entered in the system, including pension fund and group insurance when necessary (in Canada). Answer questions related to the payroll process. Build productive internal/external working relationships.
  • Conduct audits during processing to verify the accuracy of payroll data and internal controls. Audit and process special pay. May assist with audits of internal records, workers' compensation, tax filings and related documentation.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues. Validate and reconcile payroll data, including complex transactions (retro pay, bonuses, leave, garnishment and vacation balances).
  • Support third-party payroll system implementations and upgrades through assigned testing and processing tasks. Troubleshoot system issues. Partner with HRIS and Finance to ensure accurate integration and data flow. Provide input to optimize Workday Payroll configuration and processes.
  • May interpret pay policies (e.g., vacation, LOA, disability, workers' compensation, union contracts, government regulations and/or remittance, withholding exemptions, etc.) and ensure appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and correctly applied to the various accounts.
  • Provide training and support to payroll team members and other departments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors. Contribute to payroll policy development and best practices.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and provide communication support regarding payroll matters.
  • Coordinate with HR and other departments to ensure accurate payroll records and employee data.
  • May lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting (including W-2 reporting in the U.S. or T4 and RL-1 in Canada). Prepare, analyze, and distribute payroll reports to internal stakeholders.
  • Support compliance with CRA and Revenue Québec regulations and filings.
  • Participate in Workday release testing and validation to ensure accurate payroll outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to LKQ's data privacy and internal control standards.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Not responsible for supervising employees.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of related experience required.
  • Multi-state or multi-provincial tax experience including local tax jurisdictions.
  • For Canadian job: Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance.
  • For Canadian job: Must be bilingual (French and English).

Preferred Requirements
  • 2+ years of Workday Payroll experience preferred.
  • Workday Payroll Certification or equivalent.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (US)
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP required or in progress).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in Workday Payroll and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for complex reconciliations.
  • Exceptional service orientation with the ability to explain payroll concepts clearly in both English and French
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, etc. Ability to create, maintain, and incorporate functions into Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, databases, and PowerPoint presentations to support business objectives.
  • Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written skills. May train others in functional areas, interact with colleagues, and deliver presentations to departmental or middle management.
  • Problems encountered are routine, somewhat repetitive, and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures.
  • Decisions generally affect one's own job or the assigned functional area.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work is primarily sedentary: must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse, frequently.
  • Travel may be required periodically, including overnight stays (contingent on position requirements).
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
